We make a specific program for each child. We evaluate them and make a program unique to their learning ability. Each child attends six sessions every day. Our academic program teaches our children how to recognize shapes, spatial awareness, reading and writing and mathematics. Our fine motor session improves their motor skills, our gross motor session works with the child to use their whole body and grasp their capacity to know their spatial surroundings. The socialization session helps them to recognize and communicate with others. We teach them how to communicate appropriately given their certain interactions with family, friends, and acquaintances. We also teach them Arabic to enhance their vocabularies, so that they are able to communicate better outside the Center. We teach them the need to understand health and hygiene, to teach them how to be independent and know how to care for themselves like bathing, using the restroom, put on clothes etc.
Additionally, we provide art, music and computer training as well.
Our vocational training program is for all the handicap participants. We aim to improve their motor skills and to be active in their community. We intend to improve all our patients how to use their skills, so that they will be able to work and provide for themselves and their families. We provide them with many workshops like sewing, making candles, jewelry accessories, Batik, culinary skills just to name a few.
We give each child three sessions per week to help the child with their movement and motor skills. We know that three sessions per week is not enough, and it is important that they are working on their motor skills daily. Therefore, we train their mothers, so that they can take these skills and use them at home. It is the hardest department because it takes daily work so that they can be able to walk, move their head, sit by themselves.
Medical Assistance and other
The Center of Love provides and assists as much as we can for all of our patients with their medical needi.e. medicine, x-rays, doctor appointments, surgical operations, physical checkups etc. We also provide medical materials like wheel chairs, therapeutic mattresses, sanitary pads etc. We constantly try to improve our methods and train our staff on new ways to provide better assistance for our patients. Several times a year we establish training sessions for our staff.
Speech therapy Session: Each child takes two sessions per week to enhance their speech training
We provide in home services for our elderly women who have chronic illnesses or are disabled. A team does weekly visits to clean their houses, while educating them about personal hygiene and how to take care of themselves.
We also provide home prayer and visitation. Our team splits into pairs and each pair is responsible for visiting a group of patients.
Several times throughout the year, we provide day trips outside the garbage village. These are usually visits to parks or monasteries. These trips include spiritual and entertainment programs and a community (“agape”) meal.
We provide one weekend retreat each year for the mentally disabled, deaf and mute, and our chronically ill patients. The retreats are intended to provide entertainment, swimming, academic programs and relaxation. These retreats are the only time our patients stay away from their homes outside the garbage village.
Every Friday our members are welcome to participate at the Church. We provide transportation for those who wish to come and spend the whole day at the church in fellowship. There is time for spiritual teaching and discussion and relaxation, entertainment, and sports.
